How you will receive your bulbs:

Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your Allium bulbs in the autumn in a breathable mesh bag. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.

Can’t plant straight away?

Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Look to planting your bulbs within a week of receiving them.

Planting tips and hints:

Planting in the ground: It is recommended that Alliums are planted between September and October whilst the soil and weather are still fairly warm. This gives them the best chance to produce a few roots. Dig a hole with a trowel or a bulb planter 3-4 times the depth of the bulb, between 10-15cm deep. Plant bulbs between approximately 15-20cm apart and larger varieties such as 'Globemaster' up to 30cm apart. Ensure you choose a sunny and well-drained spot. Treat your soil with some organic matter or quality bulb compost

Planting in containers: Alliums make great container plants allowing for spectacular displays that can be enjoyed even in smaller spaces. If planting larger varieties it's important to use a deep container that is at least 37.5cm in diameter. Plant approximately 3 to 4 times the depth of the bulb in the soil. Always use quality bulb compost and ensure good drainage in your container.

Feeding and aftercare: Alliums are fairly low maintenance and just need to be moderately watered until they fade to yellow. Don't cut away or clear the foliage after flowering as this is needed to feed the bulb for next year. If older plants become crowded you can lift and divide after the flowers have died down. If planting in containers they can be susceptible to winter so move containers to a sheltered, warmer spot during heavy frosts.
