Description
- Small deciduous tree
- White blossom in March
- Copper-toned leaves turn orange & scarlet in autumn.
- Black berries in late summer attract birds
- RHS Award of Garden Merit
With its frosting of white flowers in March followed by coppery young leaves becoming orange and scarlet in the autumn and a pleasing upright silhouette in winter, Amelanchier lamarckii is a tree for all seasons. This small tree is attractive to wildlife: pollinators enjoy its early blossom and birds the dark red/black berries it bears in late summer.
Grow Amelanchier lamarckii in moist but well-drained neutral to acid soil, in full sun or partial shade. Encourage it to grow as a multi-stemmed shrub or allow one leader stem to develop into a tree which can reach an ultimate height of between 4 to 8 metres.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant out.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place in a sheltered spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist.
Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant’s rootball. If your soil is heavy mix in a soil improver before backfilling. Firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
Water shrubs regularly in the first year after planting and in dry periods
