Antirrhinum 'Potomac Cherry Rose', better known as snapdragon, is a cottage garden favourite with strong stems bearing bright candy pink flowers all through summer. Usually grown as an annual, it looks beautiful in containers and borders, and is ideal for cutting.

Sow indoors

February-April: Sow in a greenhouse or windowsill propagator in trays filled with seed compost, pressing the seed lightly into the surface of the compost. Keep at 18-25°C (65-75°F) until seeds have germinated. Transplant seedlings into trays, spacing them 5cm (2in) apart, and grow on.

Plant out

June: Plant out into the permanent position 30cm (12in) apart.

Tips

Deadhead regularly to prolong the flowering period.
