Sowing outdoors

Sow seeds thinly over the surface and lightly cover with a little more compost. Place in the warmth, 10-25°C and keep moist.

Growing on

Keep seedlings in a light position but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant 5cm apart into trays of potting compost. Alternatively, transplant individually into 8cm pots.

Plant out

Gradually accustom plants to outside conditions for 2-3 weeks before planting from April onwards. Earlier sowings will flower the same year; later sowings early the following year. Aquilegias tend to self-seed, so don't be surprised to see more plants spring up in your garden in subsequent years.
