How to Guide

Sow outdoors

March-August: Sow direct into the required harvest position, 2.5cm (1 in) deep. Keep soil moist at all times to prevent roots becoming dry and woody.  Thin out to 10cm (4in), or 5cm (2in) for baby beets.

Bolt-resistant varieties can be sown early, as soon as the soil begins to warm up or under cloches. Use thinnings as baby leaf. Use fleece to protect crop from frost or cold wind.  Sow a little and often for a long harvest period.
