Berberis thunbergii are spiny deciduous shrubs grown for their small brightly coloured flowers in spring and coloured foliage which turns vivid red or orange in autumn. Growing to only 70cm high and wide, Berberis thunbergii atropurpurea 'Nana' is a dwarf form of this popular shrub with red-purple oval leaves which turn a brighter shade of red in the autumn when it bears small berries. The pale yellow red tinged flowers attract pollinators. .
Grow Berberis thunbergii atropurpurea 'Nana' in a sunny position to encourage fruiting and good autumn colour. Plant Berberis thunbergii atropurpurea 'Nana' in containers, at the front of the border or as a low hedge. Combines well with silver foliage shrubs such as Convolvulus cneorum.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a 9cm pot, ready to plant out.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place in a sheltered spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist.
Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant’s rootball. If your soil is heavy mix in a soil improver before backfilling. Firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
Water shrubs regularly in the first year after planting and in dry periods
