Bring a touch of New Orleans to your home by hanging up a luxuriant sword fern.

This plant’s attractive green fronds are a superb addition to any bathroom or kitchen and will enliven any shelf. Nephrolepis exaltata holds the Royal Horticultural Society’s Award of Garden Merit and is easy to grow.

This plant thrives in indirect light and loves rooms with high levels of humidity. Keep it away from radiators and make sure the temperature does not fall below 10C.

Keep the compost moist at all times, but not waterlogged. Reduce watering over the winter. Mist ferns regularly and feed with a weak solution of general-purpose fertiliser every couple of weeks over the warmer months. Re-pot ferns if they get too big.

Yellow fronds can be caused by the air being too warm. Yellowing and brown tips can be caused by the air being too dry. Dying fronds are often caused by too much dryness in both the air and the compost.

Shake leaves to remove dust and cut off any dead fronds.

You will also receive an easy-to-use 30ml houseplant droplet feeder specially formulated to keep them happy and healthy-looking for much longer. Simply snap off the tip and stick it into your plant pot to feed your plant for up to one month.
