Vigorous F1 hybrid variety with an extra-strong root system. Parthenon is a reliable and robust crop that holds well in the ground. Great for a vegetable plot or grown in a trough with other leafy crops.
Fill a seed tray with seed compost and scatter seeds thinly over the surface. Add a thin top layer of the compost to lightly cover the seeds.
Place in the warmth at 10-15°C (60-70°F) and keep soil moist but not waterlogged. When seedlings have three or four leaves transplant seedlings to individual 7.5cm (3in) pots. Gradually accustom the plants to outdoors for three or four weeks before planting out to their permanent position. Plant 50cm (20in) apart from late spring onwards. Water plants generously in dry weather.
Create a shallow row in the soil. Water the row well before sowing. Sow seeds thinly in the row and cover the seeds with a thin layer of soil. Keep soil moist until seedlings are established.
When seedlings have around three to four leaves transplant them to their permanent position, spacing them 50cm (20in) apart. Firm the plants into the soil of their new position and keep well-watered, especially during dry spells.
