Cabbage 'Deadon' is an excellent choice for overwintering, producing firm round heads with crinkly, purple-tinged green leaves that turn darker purple and taste sweeter after the first frost. The leaves are delicious raw in salads and taste equally good in stirfries or saukerkraut. Seedlings can be planted in late spring for a late summer harvest, or in late summer for harvesting in winter and early spring.

How you will receive your plants:

Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your super seedlings in plug trays in a box. These are designed to keep your plants secure and to prevent damage in transit. Super seedling plugs can be planted out straight away without potting on.

Can’t plant straight away?

If you aren't able to plant your seedlings out straight away then ensure they stay moist. You can place your plugs on a saucer or tray of shallow water so they are able to stay hydrated. Aim to have your plugs planted within 3 days.

Planting and aftercare

Space 50cm (20in) apart with 50cm (20in) between rows. Water the seedlings well before planting. Dig a hole, place a seedling in the hole with its lower leaves at ground level and ‘puddle’ it in by filling the hole with water several times before adding soil back in. Cover the plants with netting to protect the plants from cabbage white butterfly. Water regularly in dry periods.
