Description
A neat, compact pointed cabbage with attractive dark leaves. Perfect for growing in neat rows on the allotment. Excel is a delicious and versatile crop, producing a sweet-hearted pointed cabbage. Take the opportunity to harvest Excel early for tender, loose-leaved spring greens to suit your tastes.
We recommend you sow seeds outdoors in rich soil. Sow seeds in rich soil every 4in (10cm) in a row. If you’re sowing in more than one row space rows 12in (30cm) apart to give your cabbage plants room to grow.
Keep well-watered as soon as the seeds germinate and this will put your plants in good stead. Once you’ve harvested your beetroots, bring them into the kitchen and steam them so they retain their lovely flavour and tenderness.
How your plants arrive
Your cabbage variety Excel arrives to you as a well-sealed packet of 50 seeds with variety and cultural information on the front and the back of the packet.
This includes the best sowing time, benefits of growing the variety, harvests time, top tips and other handy bits of information to help you to grow your crop successfully and enjoyably.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you need to wait until the advised time of sowing which is given on the packet check the ‘Best Before’ date given on the packet and keep the packet in a dry and cool place like a drawer in an unheated room or garage.
Please note - These seeds should ideally be sown this season. All our packets have ‘Sow by Date’ guidance on them, this is the date the seeds should be sown in order to achieve the highest rate of germination. You will still see the same high-quality plants if sowing in seasons after the ‘Sow by Date’ but may see a reduction in germination rate
