Description

Broccoli 'Gemini’ is one of the quickest-cropping varieties available, producing compact green domed heads weighing 300-500g each, packed with vitamins and iron. This top-quality broccoli has excellent flavour and tastes great steamed, stir-fried or even eaten raw as a crunchy snack. It copes well in hot summers. Keep picking the side shoots once the main head has been harvested – the more shoots you pick, the more the plant will produce!
Sow indoors
March-April: Sow thinly 1cm (1⁄2in) deep in clean trays or modules of firm pre-watered compost. Place in warmth 10-15°C (50-60°F). Keep soil moist at all times.
Sow outdoors
April-June: Sow thinly 1cm (½in) deep in rows 30cm (12in) apart. Keep soil moist at all times. Thin to 30cm (12in).
Plant out
April-May: Plant out after acclimatising to outdoor conditions, 30cm (12in) apart with 30cm (12in) between each row.
Tips
Protect from Cabbage White butterfly with netting. Cut the central head as soon as ready to encourage side shoots.
