Chaenomeles, or ornamental quince, are spiny-stemmed deciduous shrubs with small serrated leaves. Their colourful flower clusters emerge just before the leaves and continue to bloom for several months from late winter until March and April followed In late summer by small fragrant fruits which can be used in preserves or compotes. Chaenomeles sup. 'Pink Trail' has pale pink flowers resembling apple blossom. With a compact form reaching a height and spread of about 1 metre, Chaenomeles sup. 'Pink Trail' is happy growing in a large pot, using a soil based compost such as John Innes No.3.

In borders, plant in moist, but well-drained soil, in a sunny spot for more profuse flowers and fruit. The soft colours of Chaenomeles sup. 'Pink Trail' combine well with other shrubs or spring perennials such as Pulmonaria. To maintain the compact form, cut back and shape after flowering, but be aware that this will mean the shrub will not bear fruit in the autumn.
