The leaves are bronze when young, contrasting beautifully with the spring flowers before turning dark green. This stunning climber has been awarded the RHS Award of Garden Merit.
Clematis armandii ‘Apple Blossom’ will spread to cover a large space and is perfect for covering a bare west- or south-facing wall. Provide support wires for the stems to twine around.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a pot, ready to plant out.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place the pot in a sheltered spot outdoors and water regularly to keep the soil moist.
Planting tips and hints:
Planting in the ground:
Due to its size, Clematis armandi ‘Apple Blossom’ is best planted in the ground and not in a container.
Plant against a wall, fence or other climbing support in a fertile, well-drained soil in sun or partial shade. Using a trowel, dig a hole the same size as the pot your plant comes in, deep enough so that the crown of the plant (the point where the shoots emerge from the compost) will be 5-8cm (2-3in) below ground when planted. Place the plant in the hole, backfill with soil and water well.
Aftercare:
Train the stems against support wires as they grow.
Keep the roots of the plant cool by shading them with other plants or place flat pebbles around the base of the plant
Feed in spring with a slow-release fertiliserand mulch with well-rotted garden compost.
Cut back after flowering in spring if necessary to restrict the size of the plant. Cut back long shoots to strong healthy buds lower down. No routine pruning is needed.
