Enjoy the fair white-purple flowers of clematis Tranquilite opening out from large buds every summer and showing off large open petals. Bred to develop neatly and compactly Tranquilite is a lovely variety to grow in a pot and place on a sunny patio or balcony.
Tranquilite flowers are like magnets to pollinating insects like bees and butterflies, which are useful to have near your vegetable plot or kitchen garden. They stick around and pollinate the flowers of crops like tomatoes and strawberries, as well as tree blossoms, and assist the flowers into becoming delicious fruit.
Clematis Tranquilite is a pretty patio climber with flowers that contrast with the dark colours of bedding like dark petunias or white flowers of busy Lizzies and lobelias or even contrasting with yellow and orange marigolds.
Prune all the stems of Nubia back to around 30cm (12in) above the soil surface in February. Your plant then has time to put up stems over summer and reveal glorious flowers for much of the summer. Flowers appear along the whole height of the stems when you prune this way, otherwise flowers tend to amass only at the top.
