  • Good evergreen structure for borders

Cordyline australis 'Red Star' is a palm-like evergreen shrub that eventually matures into a small tree, with long sword-like red leaves that add structure and interest to borders all year round. It makes a great architectural plant for a sheltered sunny spot, and will grow well in a container for several years. Mature plants produce clusters of fragrant creamy flowers in summer.

Plant in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot.

Water container-grown plants regularly.

In areas with cold winters (below -5°C/23°F), grow cordylines in containers and move them into a frost-free greenhouse over winter.

In spring, cut back any damaged leaves.
