Producing high yields of bright yellow courgettes ‘Lemona’ is a fantastic performer. The cylindrical fruits reach about 20cm in length and are wonderfully flavoured.
Plants produce very few spines on the leaves and stems meaning that this tasty courgette is really easy to harvest.
How to sow courgettes indoors
Sow seeds from mid-April onwards indoors. The seeds are relatively large so you can plunge one seed into an individual module or small pot.
Water underneath from a water tray, and leave in an ambient temperature of 18 degrees Celsius. Before planting outdoors in July, make sure you take the young plants outdoors during the day and bring in overnight, so they get used to the outdoors.
How to sow directly outdoors
Direct sow seeds from May to June outdoors. In the first few weeks you may want to protect seedlings against any cold nights, with horticultural fleece. This method brings a slightly later harvest but it’s a much less fiddly process.
Sow plant at a spacing of 1m, as courgette plants naturally spread and appreciate the space to grow.
