Description
Golden Hornet is one of the best and most well-known Crab Apples of all and it has a coveted RHS Award of Garden Merit. It is self-fertile so a brilliant choice if it's your first tree!
These small trees have lovely spring blossom with masses of small, round golden-yellow fruits are produce from October which are good for cooking. They make an especially good jelly!
The variety gets its name from the honey yellow coloured crab apples, they stay on the branches of the tree well into winter. They are truly brilliant for making a golden coloured jelly or for pressing into a refreshing cider.
The beautiful flowers will open in the spring into bright pink buds, some of the flowers will be a pure white and some will retain pink blush.
These crab apple trees are one the very best pollinators for you apple orchard. Most crab apple varieties will pollinate your orchard apple trees but this Golden Hornet variety is extra special as it has a very long flowering season that will cover the majority of apple pollination groups.
