Cheilanthes lanosa, the Hairy Lip fern, is a small evergreen fern with with delicate-looking pale grey-green fronds, adding texture and planting and growing best in full sun and well-drained soil. This attractive fern is ideal for rockeries.

Cheilanthes lanosa cannot tolerate cold wet soil in winter. Plant in a well drained soil in full sun, in a position with protection from winter rain.

Can’t plant straight away?

Place in a sheltered spot and water regularly to keep the compost moist.

Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant’s rootball. If your soil is heavy mix in a soil improver before backfilling. Firm the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
