People can’t stop talking about Ficus ‘Ginseng’, a houseplant with real pulling power.

Designers love its enchanting glossy green leaves borne above a thick root, and it’s easy to grow.

Ficus ‘Ginseng’ can grow up to a metre in the right conditions but will stay smaller if its roots are restricted, making it perfect for coffee tables, standalone pots or plant stands.

Grow this attractive plant in rooms with good light, but avoid direct sunshine or draughts. Don’t allow temperatures to drop below 13C; between 18 and 23C is ideal. Water regularly between March and September, allowing the compost to dry in between, and feed with a weak fertiliser solution. Make sure this plant doesn’t sit in water. Wipe leaves with a damp cloth when dusty and mist regularly.

Repot in spring. Leaf loss can be caused by overwatering or too little light.

This plant is also known as Ficus microcarpa ‘Ginseng’.
