How you will receive your bulbs:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your bulbs in a breathable mesh bag. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.
Can’t plant straight away?
Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Ideally, you should aim to plant your bulbs within a week of receiving them, but if this is not possible, store them in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them.
Planting tips and hints:
Planting in the ground: Plant outdoors in April or May, once all risk of frost is past. Plant corms 5-8cm (2-3in) deep in a well-drained, fertile soil in sun or light shade.
Planting in containers:
Plant freesia corms in a cool greenhouse in March or April, approximately 5cm (2in) deep in pots filled with loam-based compost mixed with grit. Space corms 5-8cm (2-3in) apart. Place the pots in a shaded spot and water regularly. Once shoots start to appear, move into full sunlight in the greenhouse.
Feeding and aftercare:. Harden off plants and plant outdoors or move pots outside after all risk of frost is past. Support the plants as they grow with wire supports or twigs. Water regularly. Once flowering has finished, stop watering. Cut back faded flowerstems to the base but leave the foliage to die back naturally. Once the foliage has faded in autumn, lift the corms and store in trays filled with sand in a cool, dry, frost-free place indoors. *Planting and flowering months below are subject to seasonal weather conditions.
