Description

Heliotrope ‘Marine’ is a cottage garden favourite with dense clusters of intense violet-blue flowers with a very sweet scent. A tender perennial usually grown as an annual, it’s perfect for a sunny border, providing beautiful summer colour. The fragrant flowers are very popular with pollinators.
Sow indoors
February-April: Sow 0.5mm (1/4in) deep in trays filled with seed compost. Water well and place on a sunny windowsill. Keep at a temperature of 15-20°C (60-68°F) until germination (14-28 days). Keep compost damp but not wet. When large enough to handle, transplant seedlings into trays, spaced 5cm (2in) apart ,and grow on in cooler conditions.
Plant out
May-June: Once frosts are past, harden off and plant out into the permanent position 25cm (10in) apart.
Please note - These seeds should ideally be sown this season. All our packets have ‘Sow by Date’ guidance on them, this is the date the seeds should be sown in order to achieve the highest rate of germination. You will still see the same high-quality plants if sowing in seasons after the ‘Sow by Date’ but may see a reduction in germination rate
