Description

  • White flowerheads in summer
  • Deciduous shrub
  • Good for shady gardens

Hydrangea macrophylla ‘White’ is the perfect choice of shrub to brighten up a shady spot, with big white flowerheads gleaming against deep green foliage in mid and late summer.

The flower colour is not affected by soil conditions, and Hydrangea macrophylla ‘White’ will produce white flowers whether grown in acidic or alkaline soils .

This medium-sized deciduous shrub forms a rounded mound of large green leaves and prefers a moist, well drained soil in part shade, although it will grow in full sun if watered regularly.

Water regularly in dry periods to make sure the soil does not dry out.

Leave the faded flowerheads on the plant over winter to protect the new buds, and remove them in spring, cutting back flowered stems to just above a strong pair of buds lower down the stem.

Prune established plants in spring, cutting one in every four old stems down to the base to promote new growth.
