Jacaranda mimosifolia ‘Bonsai Blue’ makes a fabulous container plant with its delicate ferny foliage and clusters of purple flowers in spring and summer. A native of tropical and sub-tropical climates, this beautiful dwarf deciduous tree is perfect for a large pot on a sunny patio and can even be planted outdoors in mild areas. It will survive temperatures down to -2°C (28°F), but in cold areas should be moved into a frost-free greenhouse or conservatory in winter.

How you will receive your plants:

Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a pot, ready to plant out.

Can’t plant straight away?

Place the pot in a sheltered spot outdoors and water regularly to keep the soil moist.

Planting tips and hints:

Planting in the ground: In mild areas, plant in fertile, well-drained soil, in a sunny, sheltered position. Before planting, dig in a soil improver such as well-rotted farmyard manure to improve the soil.

Planting in containers: In cold areas, best planted in a container and moved to a frost-free position in winter. Plant in a container filled with a loam-based compost like John Innes no 3 mixed with grit or sharp sand to improve drainage.

Aftercare:

Water regularly during the growing season, especially container-grown plants. Feed container plants monthly during the growing season with a balanced liquid fertiliser. Water very sparingly in winter and protect plants from frost – they can survive a minimum temperature of -2°C (28°F) but do not like cold wet soil. If necessary, prune lightly in winter to remove any dead or damaged growth.
