Nerine bowdenii 'Alba' sparkles in late summer, with delicate-looking white flowers on sturdy stems just as other plants are starting to fade. The elegant, lily-like flowers look fantastic planted in large groups in a border or in a container, gleaming in the late summer light. They also make superb cut flowers for stylish arrangements.
How you will receive your bulbs:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your bulbs in a breathable mesh bag. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.
Can’t plant straight away?
Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Ideally, you should aim to plant your bulbs within a week of receiving them, but if this is not possible, store them in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them.
Planting tips and hints:
Planting in the ground: Plant in mid to late spring in well-drained soil in full sun. Plant bulbs shallowly, with the pointed ends upwards and the tops of the bulbs exposed. Space bulbs 10-15cm (4-6in) apart. Water after planting.
Planting in containers: Plant in spring in pots filled with multi-purpose compost. Ensure that the top of the bulb is above the level of the compost. Water in and place the pot in a sunny position.
Feeding and aftercare: Water regularly in dry periods and feed with a high potash fertiliser like liquid tomato feed in summer. Deadhead faded flowers and allow the foliage to die back naturally. Avoid disturbing bulbs once established.
