This simple to grow, tasty white onion produces large bulbs which can be used in a variety of different dishes from casseroles to mint sauces.
Simply sow direct into well prepared soil during March or April then thin to help bulbs swell properly throughout the growing season. If growing for exhibition, a longer growing season is needed, so sow earlier and indoors. You will be rewarded with huge onions up to 1kg in weight.
If you want your seeds to germinate quickly you can put down a horticultural fleece over the soil – this helps retain the heat in the soil, and doubles up as protection from hungry seed-eating mice.
