Sow indoors

September-October: Sow in a greenhouse/polytunnel, thinly1cm (1⁄2in) deep in rows 40cm (16in) apart. Keep soil moist as dry conditions can impair germination. Thin out plants to 25cm (10in) apart or 10cm (4in) for baby leaf.

March-August: Sow seeds thinly 1cm (1⁄2in) deep in rows 40cm (16in) apart. Keep soil moist as dry conditions can impair germination. Thin out plants to 25cm (10in) apart or 10cm (4in) for baby leaf.

Tips

Keep well watered in periods of dry weather. Use thinnings in baby leaf salads. Mature leaves can be steamed or used in stir-fries. Pak Choi is fast growing and highly nutritious.
