- True-blue trumpet flowers every summer and autumn
- Elegant and sophisticated
- Attractive to honey bees to add life to your garden
- Great for cut flowers
- Long flowering period through the summer and the autumn
Add penstemon Electric Blue to wall-side borders or the centre of your flower beds for relaxing and cottage-style tall stems of beautiful trumpet flowers every summer and every autumn. Flowering for near half the year impressive Electric Blue performs like a champion in the garden.
We recommend that you cut some of the flower stems for vases. They complement other tall perennials and berry-producing plants like St John’s wort and beauty berry. Electric Blue excels in containers and this variety attracts bees and lacewings which keep garden pest numbers in your outdoor space.
When the weather turns at the end of autumn put your containers in the greenhouse to keep Electric Blue away from hard frosts. If in the ground, either dig up the root system and put in a container to bring under cover or cover the stems bases with a double layer of horticultural fleece to keep the worst of the cold off the roots.
Plant in a sunny part of your garden or a part of your garden that gets some sun throughout the day. We recommend that you position your five plants as a group, spacing the individual plants around 20cm (8in) apart if growing in a bed. Position them in a triangular formation if you want to grow them in a pot. Use good, rich compost and water well at planting.
