To ensure your tree stays looking its best right through the festive season, follow these simple steps:
- When your tree arrives, take it out of the box, remove the netting and shake the tree to get rid of any old loose needles from previous seasons. Water your tree well to rehydrate it.
- Don’t repot the tree, as this will disturb the roots. You can place the existing pot inside a larger, more decorative pot or on a drip tray to collect water.
- Choose a position for your tree away from fires or radiators, as these will dry out the tree and increase needle drop.
- Water regularly, enough to keep the compost moist but not sodden.
- Pot-grown Christmas trees can be re-used for several years if they are looked after, making them very environmentally-friendly. If you want to keep your pot-grown tree after Christmas, place it outside in a sunny, sheltered spot. Water regularly and feed with a balanced liquid feed. Pot on annually into a slightly larger pot filled with a loam-based compost like John Innes No 3.
