Description
A British-bred variety of pumpkin that ripens earlier than other pumpkins with fruits of 3-4kg (6 ½- 9lbs) A compact variety that perfect for small gardens or even container-growing.
Sowing indoors
Sow seeds in individual 9cm (3 ½ in) pots filled with seed compost. Push these large seeds on their side into the compost to a depth of 2cm (1/2 in). Place in a warm environment 15-18°C (60-65°F). As seedlings develop grow on in cooler, light conditions but avoid direct sunlight.
Planting out:
Gradually accustom plants to outdoor conditions for two to three weeks before planting out to permanent outdoor planting positions after the risks of frost have passed. Space plants 90cm (36in) apart.
Sowing outdoors
Water 2cm (1/2 in) deep rows well. Sow three seeds together at 90cm (36in) intervals or one set of three seeds in the centre of a large container. After germination pinch out the two weaker seedlings of the groups of three, leaving the strongest at each station.
Pumpkins are hungry and thirsty plants. Water freely and frequently especially during dry spells. Once fruits swell in earnest feed plants regularly with a liquid fertiliser.
