How you will receive your bulbs:

Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your Ranunculus bulbs in early spring in a breathable mesh bag. This is to keep the bulbs together in a pack that is nice and airy – perfect to keep the bulbs healthy while in transit.

Can’t plant straight away?

Keep your bulbs in a cool, light, and dry place and preferably hanging on a hook so that air can get to the bulbs at all angles. Ideally, you should aim to plant your bulbs within a week of receiving them, but if this is not possible, store them in a cool, dark place until you are ready to plant them.

Planting tips and hints:

Planting in the ground: You can plant your Ranunculus bulbs from mid-March (in mild areas) or in April (in cold areas). Dig a hole with a trowel or a bulb planter approximately 5cm deep. Plant bulbs 5-10cm apart. If planting in heavy soil, mix in some quality bulb compost and potting grit to improve drainage. Place the bulb in the hole with the claws facing down, then fill the hole and compact the soil gently. Water in to moisten the soil.

Planting in containers: Use a mix of 2 parts bulb compost and 1 part potting grit for good drainage. Plant the bulbs in the compost about 2cm deep and 5cm apart, with claws pointing down. Water just enough to settle the soil, then place the container in part to full sun and leave until the shoots appear. If hard frosts are forecast, move the pots to a cool, frost-free place overnight.

Aftercare: When the flowers start to fade, stop watering and let the plants die back, then dig up the claws and store them in a cool, dry frost-free place over winter.
