‘Belle de Fontenay’ is an ideal choice for producing handsome harvests in your allotment or growing space. It is a beautiful French first-early variety that is firm and waxy in texture, and a perfect choice to boil, steam or use as a salad potato. Ideal for Sunday lunches in late spring to early summer.
An expert RHS panel commented after trial that this variety also improves in flavour on storage. We recommend growing ‘Belle de Fontenay’ in grow bags if space is limited, they are suitable for a sunny spot on a patio or balcony and will still return a good harvest.
All our seed potatoes are graded to a size 35mm x 35mm to 55mm x 55mm. This means that the smallest seed potatoes in the sample will not fall through an 35mm square. This does mean there will be various sizes within the pack. More modern varieties are more equal in size but as we want to offer the more unusual and Heritage varieties, these are more variable but we will always supply the weight stated. Any harvest will depend on individual growing conditions but generally smaller potatoes will produce smaller crops and larger potatoes will produce larger crops. But for example 1kg of seed potatoes will produce the same overall harvest whether the seed potatoes are small or large.
