Description
- Plant in late summer for early, heavy harvests next year
- Large red berries on upright stems
- Delicious flavour
- Long harvest period
Strawberry Vibrant (previously called Marshmarvel) is a top-quality early strawberry bearing glossy red berries with excellent flavour. The flowers and fruit are held well above the foliage on upright stems, keeping the fruit clean and making them easy to pick. Plants will crop in May-June and again in September from their second year.
Misted Tip strawberry plants have become very popular for late summer planting.
This innovative process in strawberry production is increasingly being used by commercial growers to give bigger and better first-year yields. Plants are produced by taking early, un-rooted runner tips from specially selected mother plants. These are rooted into individual modules in a mist propagation unit and when planted in late summer, (up until the end of August) the plants establish quickly and form a strong root network underground over winter rather than in spring, ensuring plants are ready to put up lots of flowering stems for harvests earlier in the season.
Strawberry Vibrant is protected by Plant Variety Rights and cannot be propagated even for own use and resold without a licence.
Plant your strawberry plants as soon as you get them, in fertile, well-drained soil in full sun. Space the plants 35cm (14in) apart, in rows spaced 75cm (30in) apart. Water regularly in dry periods, especially while the plants are getting established.
In spring and summer, feed fortnightly with a liquid high-potash feed (tomato feed is ideal).
Mulch around the plants with straw to protect the fruit from slugs and snails.
Once the fruit starts to develop, cover the plants with netting to protect the fruit from birds.
Cut off old leaves at the end of summer and remove the netting. Clear away any straw mulch to improve ventilation around the plants.
