Description
- Winter hardy with a long cropping period.
- Versatile in the kitchen.
- Good for pots and containers.
An impressively winter-hardy turnip variety to have when greens are lean. Its sweet, tender flesh makes it versatile in the kitchen with a wide range of culinary uses. Dice, slice or chop for a range of delicious dishes.
This is a very tough and resilient variety that is worth adding to your vegetable patch or for welcome winter harvests along with leeks and winter cabbage. It's also ideal for pots or containers so can be grown in any small space. What’s more – you can steam the leaves too, leaving no part of the plant unused.
Growing Calendar
How to Guide
Sow outdoors
March-August: Sow thinly, ½in (1cm) deep direct in the harvest location. Keep soil moist at all stages of growth as this prevents roots becoming ‘woody’. Thin to 6in (15cm) apart in rows 12in (30cm) apart.
Tips
Pick when small and young. Use in salads for a nutty flavour. Turnips do best in well-dug soils which have not been recently manured. Best results are achieved from plants which are grown with plenty of moisture and harvested while young.
