Description

Walnut Broadview is an outstanding variety, it is very hardy and is quite late into leaf, and this means that it is very rarely damaged by frost. Your unripe nuts are brilliant for using in pickling recipes.

If you are a bit more adventurous than you might like to try grinding the hard shells of ripe nuts to use as a stuffing for a traditional pasta dish called ‘Agnolotti’. This Walnut is one of the earliest and greatest all round fruiting cultivars. It is a very well-known variety in the UK.

Walnut Broadview is self-fertile, the nuts are slightly pointed. It is said often that Walnut trees will inhibit growth of other plants in your garden, for this reason you should take care when planting nearby.

The Tree releases Juglone (a poison that prevents growth of other plants) for their roots and also their leaves. You should avoid planting anything under or in a few feet of the eventual canopy of the tree. The roots will most likely spread as wide as the canopy, any leaves from the tree should be burnt, not used in a compost.

Rootstock: Juglans Regia

Flowering Group: Self-Fertile

Years until fruiting from planting: 2-4

Age of tree at despatch: 2

Height at full growth: 5m/16ft

Most of our trees are delivered as bare rooted specimens with approximate height of: 3.5ft - 5ft / 105cm - 140cm depending on the variety.

In order to ensure a good pollination pick fruit trees from within the same or from adjacent flowering groups.

The vast majority of the trees we ship have been pruned and will appear trimmed.
