Description
- Spring planting
- Big bulbs that produce big cloves
- Sweeter and milder than smaller garlic
- Easy to grow
- Get four times the quantity at harvest time
We take these large Elephant Garlic cloves and plant them in the nursery in 9cm pots. Here, they establish strong root systems and the start of green top growth. Plants will then establish earlier and quicker than normal bulbs, leading to larger crops.
A great pack to choose if you want just a few elephant garlics to try or have limited space.
Elephant garlic is a crop on the vegetable plot to turn heads. More closely related to the leek this variety acts more like a garlic in taste, smell and the way it grows.
They will also produce a lovely purple flowering head which ought to be cut when it emerges to get the best bulb for eating.
The flavour of the Elephant Garlic is milder and sweeter than that of the traditional garlic. This lends Elephant Garlic to roasting whole.
Try basting it with olive oil and then roasting it in the oven where it will give you a creamy-textured vegetable or eating it raw, grated into a salad.

How to Guide
Planting Garlic
Prepare the ground with our Pre-Planting Onion, Garlic & Shallot Fertiliser to ensure strong bulb development and growth, early ripening and maturity, good skin and bulb firmness.
Place the cloves in the soil with their tips around 2.5cm (1in) below the surface. Space them about 15cm (6 inches) apart. Keep rows around 30cm (12 inches) apart.
If the weather is particularly wet, or soil very heavy, start cloves in modules in a greenhouse or under other protection until conditions improve.
