What is a soil improver made of?

Soil improver gets its nutrients from things such as compost, manure and peat moss. There are organic and inorganic options available:

Inorganic

Limestone, rock dust, gypsum, glauconite and polysaccharides.

Organic soil improver

Tree bark, woodland soil, sawdust, seaweed,
molasses, horse/cow manure, and wormcasts.

Soil improver versus fertiliser

Soil improver and fertiliser do play a similar role, so it's easy to see why they can be confused. Fertiliser provides nutrients to the soil, yet it doesn't address its build-up or quality. Soil improver tackles the soil's structure, including air and water pockets and firmness, which allows plants to make the best use of the nutrients supplied by fertilisers.

When should I use a soil improver?

Soil improver can be used all year round, but using it in
the spring will generate the best results. In terms of scenarios, it can also be used:

• When planting new beds.
• When mulching.

Can I use soil improver and fertiliser together?
