When to plant Coriander Seeds

Coriander seeds can be sown from late March to early September for a continuous supply of fresh leaves. For an early start, sow indoors from February, or for a winter crop, grow indoors or under cover. Coriander prefers mild temperatures and is best grown in spring and autumn, as hot summer weather can cause it to bolt (flower and set seed too quickly).

How to Plant Coriander Seeds

Sow coriander seeds directly into well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Space seeds around 2 cm apart and cover lightly with soil. If growing in pots, use multi-purpose compost and ensure the container has drainage holes. Keep the soil moist but not waterlogged. Once seedlings appear, thin them to around 15 cm apart to allow space for growth.

How long do Coriander Seeds take to grow?

Coriander seeds typically germinate in 7-14 days. If grown for leaves, you can start harvesting in 3-4 weeks. If left to mature fully for seeds, the plant will take around 3 months to produce seed heads, which can be dried and used for cooking or replanting.
