When to sow Phlox Seeds 

Phlox seeds are typically sown indoors from late winter to early spring, or outdoors in spring once conditions are suitable. Early sowing gives plants plenty of time to establish and produce colourful blooms during the summer months. 

How to grow Phlox from seed 

Sow phlox seeds in moist seed compost and lightly cover them with a thin layer of compost. Keep the compost moist and place containers in a bright location. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, transplant them into individual pots and continue growing them on before hardening off and planting outside. Phlox prefers fertile, well-drained soil and a sunny position, although some varieties will tolerate light shade. 

How long does it take for Phlox to flower? 

Annual phlox varieties typically flower in their first growing season and provide a long-lasting display throughout summer. Perennial varieties may take longer to establish but reward gardeners with colourful blooms year after year. Regular deadheading can help encourage a longer flowering period.
