When to plant Pepper Seeds

Pepper seeds should be sown indoors from January to March, as they require a long growing season and warm temperatures to thrive. Start seeds in pots or trays, and transplant seedlings outdoors in late spring, once all risk of frost has passed, and the soil has warmed.

How to plant Pepper Seeds

Sow seeds 0.5 cm deep in seed trays or pots filled with compost. Keep them in a warm location (around 20-25°C) to encourage germination, which usually takes 7-14 days. Once seedlings have grown large enough, harden them off before transplanting them into well-drained soil in a sunny, sheltered spot. Space the plants 30-40 cm apart to allow for good air circulation.

Pepper seeds generally take around 7-14 days to germinate. The plants will take 60-90 days to mature after transplanting, depending on the variety. Fruits will start to ripen in late summer to early autumn, with continuous harvests if you pick regularly.
