When to plant Courgette Seeds

Courgette seeds should be planted in late spring (April to May) when the risk of frost has passed and the soil has warmed up. You can start seeds indoors 3-4 weeks before the last frost, then transplant them outside once the seedlings are large enough and the weather has warmed up. Courgettes are very sensitive to frost, so ensure the danger of frost has passed before planting them outside.

How to Plant Courgette Seeds

Plant courgette seeds directly into well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny location. You can either sow them directly outdoors or start indoors in pots. Sow seeds 2-3cm deep and space them 60-90cm apart to allow room for growth. If starting indoors, sow the seeds in small pots with seed compost and transplant them once the seedlings have at least two leaves. Courgettes grow best when they are well-watered and receive plenty of sunshine.

How long do Courgette Seeds take to grow?

Courgette seeds typically germinate within 7-10 days. After transplanting outdoors, you can expect the plants to start producing fruit in about 6-8 weeks, depending on the variety and growing conditions. Courgettes are fast growers and will continue to produce fruit throughout the summer until the weather turns cooler in autumn.
