When to sow Zinnia Seeds 

Zinnia seeds are best sown indoors from March to April or sown directly outdoors after the risk of frost has passed in late spring. As tender annuals, zinnias need warm conditions to germinate and grow well. 

How to grow Zinnias from seed 

Sow zinnia seeds in moist seed compost and lightly cover with compost. Place seed trays in a warm, bright location and keep the compost consistently moist while seeds germinate. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, pot them on and grow them in a frost-free environment. Harden plants off before planting outdoors in a sunny position with fertile, well-drained soil. 

How long does it take for Zinnias to flower? 

Zinnias are quick-growing plants and typically begin flowering from mid-summer onwards. With regular deadheading, they will continue producing colourful blooms right through summer and into autumn until the first frosts.
