When to plant Chive Plants

Chive plants can be sown from seed indoors from February to April and transplanted outside once the risk of frost has passed, usually in late spring. Alternatively, young chive plants can be planted directly outdoors from March to September. As a hardy perennial, chives can survive mild winters and regrow each year.

How to Plant Chive Plants

Chives thrive in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny or partially shaded spot. Space plants around 20cm apart to allow for bushy growth.
