When to plant Potted Roses
Potted roses can be planted at any time of the year, provided the ground isn’t frozen or waterlogged. However, the best times to plant are during the milder conditions of spring (March to May) and autumn (September to November). Planting during these periods allows the roses to establish their roots before the more extreme temperatures of summer or winter.
How to Plant Potted Roses
To plant potted roses, start by choosing a sunny spot with well-drained soil, as roses thrive with at least six hours of sunlight a day. Prepare the planting site by digging a hole that is twice the width of the pot and just as deep. Remove the rose from its pot and gently loosen the roots. Place the rose in the hole, ensuring the graft union (the swollen part where the stems meet the roots) is at or just below the soil surface. Fill the hole with soil, firming gently around the base of the plant, and water thoroughly to help settle the soil. Applying mulch around the base can help retain moisture and suppress weeds.
How long do Potted Roses take to grow
Potted roses are already partially established, so they typically adapt and grow quickly after planting. You can expect to see new growth within a few weeks, especially during the growing season. Flowering can occur in the first season, with full establishment and more vigorous growth in the subsequent years.
