When to plant Cucumber Seeds

Cucumber seeds should be sown in late spring (April to May) when the soil has warmed up and the risk of frost has passed. You can start seeds indoors 4-6 weeks before the last frost date, then transplant them outside once the weather is consistently warm, usually after mid-May. Cucumbers are sensitive to cold, so ensure the risk of frost has passed before planting outdoors.

How to Plant Cucumber Seeds

Cucumber seeds should be planted in fertile, well-drained soil in a sunny spot. If sowing indoors, use small pots filled with seed compost, and plant the seeds 2-3 cm deep. Keep the pots warm (around 20°C) and place them in a sunny location. Once the seedlings have grown large enough and the weather has warmed up, transplant them outdoors, spacing them 30-45cm apart. You can also sow seeds directly outdoors once the soil temperature is consistently above 15°C.
