Take a look at some of the frequently asked questions we receive from those looking to buy Gaillardia Seeds in the UK. You can contact our Customer Service Team or browse our general FAQs for further advice.
Gaillardia seeds are usually sown indoors from February to April or directly outdoors in late spring once the soil has warmed. Starting seeds indoors can help plants establish earlier and provide flowers in their first growing season.
Sow gaillardia seeds around 5mm deep in moist, well-drained seed compost and keep them in a warm, bright location. Once seedlings are large enough to handle, pot them on and grow them until all risk of frost has passed before planting outdoors. Gaillardia thrives in full sun and well-drained soil and performs particularly well in borders, gravel gardens and containers.
Gaillardia produces masses of colourful daisy-like flowers from summer through to autumn. Regular deadheading helps encourage continuous blooming, allowing plants to flower for several months and often until the first frosts.
Growing gaillardia from seed is an affordable and rewarding way to fill the garden with long-lasting colour. Their vibrant red, orange and yellow blooms are highly attractive to bees, butterflies and other pollinators. Many varieties also make excellent cut flowers and are particularly useful in hot, sunny areas of the garden.
Gaillardia is ideal for sunny borders, wildlife gardens, prairie-style planting schemes, coastal gardens, raised beds and containers. Once established, many varieties tolerate dry conditions and thrive in free-draining soils where other flowering plants may struggle. Full sun is essential for the best flowering performance.
