Description
- Yellow canes that turn orange in full sun
- Very hardy
- Makes a good hedge or screening plant
- Use a root barrier to control spread
Hardy and evergreen, with golden canes that take on an orange tint when grown in full sun, Phyllostachys aureosulcata (yellow groove bamboo) makes a striking hedge or screening plant that looks great all year round. The lush green foliage can be stripped off the lower portion of the canes to show off their striking colour.
Phyllostachys aureosulcata is a vigorous running bamboo that spreads via underground rhizomes. To stop it becoming invasive, plant it in a large container, or use a non-perishable bamboo root barrier if planting in the ground.
How you will receive your plants:
Selected by our team of experts and sent from our nursery, you will receive your plant in a pot, ready to plant out.
Can’t plant straight away?
Place the pot in a sheltered spot outdoors and water regularly to keep the soil moist.
Planting tips and hints:
Planting in the ground:
Dig a hole slightly wider than the rootball of the plant. Place the plant in the hole so that it sits at the same level in the ground as it did in the pot. When backfilling, mix in a soil improver such as well-rotted farmyard manure. Firm the soil around the plant and water well.
Planting in containers:
Choose a pot with good drainage holes. Place stones or crocks (bits of broken pottery) at the bottom of the pot to stop the drainage holes clogging up. Use a good quality compost.
Feeding and aftercare: Water regularly until established. To show off the stems to their best effect, remove dead and damaged stems in spring and strip the foliage from the lower section of the remaining stems. Feed container-grown bamboos monthly from spring to autumn with a balanced liquid feed.
*Planting and flowering months below are subject to seasonal weather conditions.
