Harvest
Aubergine ‘Ivory’ is a compact variety producing heavy crops of small creamy-white fruits with a delicate, mild flavour, rich in minerals and antioxidants and delicious baked, grilled or steamed. The fruits last well on the plant for several weeks. Aubergine ‘Ivory’ is thorn-free, making harvesting easy.
This compact, ornamental aubergine is perfect for a small vegetable plot or a pot on a sunny patio.
Sow indoors
Level fill a module tray with seed compost firming with the base of another tray. Water well with a fine rose. Sow seeds individually and cover with 1cm (½ in) layer of fine compost. Place in a propagator at 18-25°C (65-75°F) or cover tray with cling film and leave in a warm room. Keep moist.
Grow on
When shoots appear, remove cling film. Keep seedlings in a light position, but shade from direct sunlight. When large enough to handle, transplant into 9cm (3½ in) pots of potting compost. Grow on in a minimum temperature of 15°C (60°F).
Plant out
Plant into the greenhouse border, grow bags or 30cm (12in) diameter containers on a sunny patio when first flowers have opened. Water and feed well to promote fruiting. Use good quality compost suitable for containers, water regularly and feed with a liquid tomato fertiliser when the fruits begin to swell.
