Calendula ‘Canteloupe’ looks stunning in pots or borders, with an abundance of flowers all summer in warm peach, orange, cream and yellow shades. Very easy to grow from seed, this popular annual is loved by pollinators and makes fantastic cut flowers.

Sow indoors

February-April: Sow 1cm (1⁄2in) deep in seed trays or modules at a temperature of 18-23C (65-73F). Keep moist at all times. When large enough to handle, transplant to individual small pots and grow on in cooler conditions.

Sow outdoors

March-May, August-October: Sow 1cm (1⁄4in) deep in drills spaced 30cm (12in) apart. Keep soil moist until established. Thin seedlings to 30cm (12in) apart.

Plant out

June: Plant out into the permanent position 30cm (12in) apart.

Tips

Deadhead regularly to promote more flowers and prevent self-seeding.
