Snowdrops are a favourite in the UK providing wonderful delicate white flowers in early spring with a delightful scent.
This variety 'Galanthus nivalis' is the common wild species of snowdrop that are commonly seen across the UK, most notably in shady forest areas. The leaves are silvery green and are topped by the neat, slim flowers. The variety is robust and reliable despite our British weather.
To grow 'Galanthus nivalis' as 'bulbs in the green' means they will very quickly become established in your garden in almost any soil. The reason these plants grow faster than traditional autumn bulbs is due to them being lifted and then supplied whilst they are still active and either in flower or leaf. This makes them much stronger the following year.
This method of collecting the bulbs whilst they are growing is highly popular as the plants need not work as hard to flourish. Choose a large number of bulbs in the green to plant en masse for a wonderful white and green sea of colour. Our bulbs are responsibly sourced and are not collected from the wild.
The common Snowdrop typically grows to around 15cm tall and so is suited to the front of your flower beds. When partnered in the ground with later and taller spring bulbs such as Tulips and Daffodils, Galanthus nivalis provides a wonderful contrast.
