Black Magic is an improved form of the Italian Black Kale and has been specially bred for UK home growers so they can enjoy growing it in the UK climate.
Much more mature than a plug plant, they are already well established and very well rooted. Ideal for growing just a small number of plants per variety.
It stands up to our winter weather so well, the foliage is darker and plants are more uniform than Italian Black Kale. Marshalls praises it for its good stability and bolt resistance.
Black Magic cooks quickly, keeping its rich dark colour. The leaves have a unique flavour and delicate texture. Some people blitz kale but we recommend you simply steam to enjoy the unique texture of the whole leaves.
How you will receive your plants:
These plants are in a 9cm growing pot and are much more mature than a plug plant, they are already well established and very well rooted. Ideal for growing just a small number of plants per variety.
Can’t plant straight away?
If you cant plant out straight away, remove the pots from their packaging and give them a good water. Place somewhere cool and shaded in the garden, ensuring the compost remains moist at all times.
Planting tips and hints:
Planting in the ground: Dig a hole approximately twice as deep and 3 times as wide as the plant, if your soil is heavy mix in general-purpose compost, horticultural sand and stone or potting grit to ensure good drainage. Gently compact the soil around the plant and water thoroughly.
